For the Host or Hostess---Gifts to Sew

Candy Ornament table runner
Sewing something for the hostess (or host) of that holiday party or gathering is a thoughtful way of saying thank you for all the hardwork that went into planning, cooking, and cleaning. And these gifts are fast and easy---made in as little as an hour or two, depending on your skill and tools available. So don't forget a little something for that hostess---you'll be the most thoughtful guest on the list.

Matching Applique towel

Hostess gift one---bring two holiday scrubbies and complimentary dish towels and help with the clean up. The design CD has holiday designs for virtually every holiday of the year so you can use it over and over again to keep your house and those chores fun all year long.

I love cloth napkins---don't you? And in just two minutes you can have fabric edged with one of the Husqvarna/Viking Sergers. So easy to take a yard or two of fun holiday fabric and turn it into napkins that can be brought out with every holiday.

Holiday table runners and trivets make great hostess gifts. Not only will they eliminate the scramble to find something to protect that fine table from your hot casserole but they will help create a festive table too. And we have so many designs and patterns in the store to help you out.

And a set of coasters will come in handy to protect that sofa table from that holiday punch. Cover old, unusable CD's and DVD's with embroidery and voila!
And one of my favorites are the chocolate towels, using the Lunchbox quilt's fun Chocolate design CD. Embroider recipe's onto ready made towels for a quick and easy right there in the hoop gift. (CD is only $29.95 for a limited time!)

And don't you use the same recipes from your recipe books each year? Why not mark the pages with some festive holiday bookmarks---embroidered right on Aqua Magic stabilizer---no trimming of those edges; just a quick swish in warm water after embroidery and there's your bookmark ready to go.

Don't have a sewing machine yet that will perform these works of magic? Come in and see us. Now is the best time to get your Husqvarna/Viking Diamond or Ruby---with 0% interest financing for a very limited time only.(see the store for details.)

Sewing Gifts for Professionals and Co-Workers

Mail Carriers, Hair Dressers, Dog Sitters, Child Care Workers, and your Co-workers; it's nice to have a little something to give these special people who you couldn't live without.

And you can turn to your sewing machine to easily sew some original and personalized gifts for these special people.

One gift that is sure to please is an embroidered ornament. We have several design packs at the sewing center to help you with this gift----which will be as original as you are.

If a gift card for a cup of coffee or sandwich is what you choose why not make it more personal with a gift card holder created by you and your sewing machine in the hoop? Depending on the size of your hoop you may be able to fit 2 or 3 in each hooping to to save time and stabilizer.

And who could resist a cute scrubby---especially for
that person who you know as a chef!

Sewing an eyeglass case either in the hoop or using a general purpose pattern would make a great and handy gift that any one can use for eyeglasses or sunglasses too.

And anyone can use a tiny sewing kit with needles, a bit of thread, safety pin, and an extra button for those emergencies in a kit that you make with your sewing machine.

When you think of it the possibilities are endless. Come see us for inspiration and project ideas.  We are here to help.

New Husqvarna/Viking Multi-line Decorative Foot

Over the weekend I got a chance to try out one of the new feet in the Husqvarna/Viking line. The Multi-line Decorative Foot is a convenient foot to have. With the small transparent grid that simply glides over your work you can see to sew everything straight and even.

I used it to quilt a mini and it was easy to see where my next line of stitches went. It also is easy to keep stitches even within a distance to any straight line. And it didn't do too bad on curves either.

A regular foot is 5/8 of an inch.  The Multi-Line Decorative Foot extends that width to a total of  two inches to help keep your sewing more accurate and assist you even further from the edge to place your decorative stitches and embellishments.

I really loved this foot and am sure that it is going to be a very useful addition to my sewing room.

Don't forget the thread! We have specialty collections like this R/A skin color collection for digitized photos. And high quality threads for quilting and embroidery that are on special for this month only!

Floriani Assortment with reuseable storage drawers.

And everyone could use another thumb drive! How about one in the shape of Santa?

Santa thumbdrive $10.95
We have sewing baskets if everything won't fit into the stocking. Sewing baskets filled with thread needles and a bit of fabric make great beginners gifts for children too. And sewing isn't just for girls any longer! We have a few gents in our classes.

Whatever the skill level of your loved one, our staff is ready to help with gift suggestions and ideas. Come see us for some relaxing, full service holiday shopping.

A Sewing Machine for Christmas?

A sewing machine makes a great Christmas gift that keeps on giving throughout the year. And there are even more selections and better deals than last year! So many improvements, more features, and machines that take sewing to new heights of creativity.

Here are just a few of the selections that we have available at the sewing center this year:

General Purpose Sewing

Tradition 140C
Husqvarna/Viking came out with its brand new Anniversary models this year. The 140C is the electronic version that has a graphic display with sewing advisor, 145 stitches, and features you would normally find in more expensive models like needle up/down, fix function, and memories for decorative stitch functions. Two lights make it easy to see where you're sewing and there's a generous work surface for big projects like quilts. This sewing machine carries on in the Husqvarna/Viking tradition that is over 140 years old.

Singer 2250 Tradition
If it's a starter machine you're looking for the Singer 2250 Tradition makes an excellent selection with its basic features that include 10 built in stitches, handy snap on presser feet and a nice selection of accessories. This is a simple beginner model and at a price well under the $99 level it would be easy to throw in a sewing basket with extra needles and a bit of fabric.

Embroidery/Sewing Machines

Husqvarna/Viking Topaz
Today's embroidery machines do more than just embroidery---add a lace edge, embellish an outfit, quilt, and do whole projects right in the hoop with a touch of button. If you haven't seen one of these machines do their job, then come by the sewing center because you are in for a real treat. Most people are surprised to learn just how affordable the Husqvarna/Viking Topaz line is and it is the beginner model. With over 100 built in stitches, free designs, and a built in sewing advisor this USB compatible machine helps the home sewer get professional results each and every time. Machines like this one make sewing so much fun and easy too.

And this year the two gems of the Husqvarna/Viking line, The Designer Diamond Deluxe and the newly designed, Designer Ruby Deluxe come with special incentives to sweeten the holiday deal. Bonus gifts and Rebates---but only for a limited time. If you're curious about which machine is for you, hop on over to our website and view this handy chart.
Our machines come with after sale support and classes to help you get the most of your sewing machine's features. We'll teach you how best to use your machine, whether it's how to thread, adjust tension, change needle positions, the best feet to use for your project, or lowering the feed dogs. Today's machines have so many new features that the old ones didn't have a handy class outlining the new features will save your gift recipient frustration and will help your loved one get the most enjoyment out of creating the next generation of family heirlooms or runway fashions.
We also take trade ins and offer a fine assortment of reconditioned models---if  your budget is limited come see our assortment of used machines. We also support these models with limited warranties and after sale support and classes.
So, whatever your price range or skill level we are here to help you get the best gift you can possibly buy and insure that your loved one gets the most out of that treasure. Come see us today!

Gifts Ideas to Sew for Men

At a loss for gift ideas for the men in your life? Here are some ideas many of which can be sewn in just an afternoon. Be sure to check our class schedule for ideas or free sewing days to bring in your project to sew and enjoy. What a relaxing way to enjoy your holiday season and make personal gifts at the same time!

***How about a bottle of something yummy wrapped in a personalized bottle bag?

***We have in the hoop change pouch patterns. Make a manly money bag in a favorite team fabric or take advantage of our wildlife/sportsman's design packages to embroider a fish, bird, or golf motif.

***And speaking of golf don't those clubs need some quick covers?

***Here's an idea straight from the Coats and Clark site; a cornhole game. Sew the pouches and find help with the board that can be covered with team fabric of choice.

***And when you're considering a gift for a man think barbecue. And barbecues are messy--- they require things like chef's aprons, towels, and recipe books for those special sauces.

***Finally, I don't know any men who don't like gadgets, and gadgets need bags. And bags need tags. And tags need personalizations that only your sewing machine can provide

So let's get busy. We've got plenty of time. And, I don't know about you, but I'd rather be sewing than fighting the crowds in some superstore!
